The Rebellious Read Aloud attempts to empower educators to courageously converse with students around important and culturally relevant current topics in a way that's developmentally appropriate and meets ELA and social justice standards. After laying the foundation for why diverse books and difficult conversations about "hushed topics" are important; how to create classroom conditions that scaffold students' deep thinking and conversations using picture books; and how to address concerns from students, colleagues, and parents, this book presents 45 read aloud lessons around current, diverse picture books that can spark deep conversation and learning about self, others, and the world.
